British sports radio station talkSPORT has today picked up on news out of Italy that denies that Arsenal summer target Gonzalo Higuain is on the verge of leaving Napoli for Barcelona.

Reports over the weekend suggested that new Barca manager Luis Enrique has made signing a new striker to compliment Messi and Neymar a summer priority.

It looked as though he was closing in on Napoli’s Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain Sunday evening which would have come as bad news for Arsenal as they try to line up a top striker during this summer’s transfer window.

Gunner’s manager Arsene Wenger is desperate to find a world-class finisher to help ease the burdon on Olivier Giroud next season and is known to be a big admirer of the 26-year-old who he missed out on signing from Real Madrid last summer.

As talk continued to speculate that Higuain was on his way back to Spain Serie A giants Napoli rubbished the rumour on Twitter by posting the following: “The press reports saying Higuain could join Barcelona lack any foundation.”
