At lasts some good news for Arsenal fans with the Daily Star reporting that Arsenal has jumped ahead of Manchester United in the race to score Colombian hit man Jackson Martinez from Portuguese side Porto.

There have also been reports in Italy suggesting that Roma were interested in the 27-year-old scoring sensation, however his agent Peppino Tirri has said that no offers have been forthcoming from the Giallorossi.

In fact Tirri who is due to meet with both United and Arsenal is saying that it is the Gunners who are particularly interested in his client.

“In Italy we have had very little contact, but for sure there have not been any offers from Roma,” Tirri told Calciomercato.

“There are, instead, opportunities abroad – Arsenal and Valencia in particular are very interested in Jackson Martinez.”

The Italian agent revealed yesterday that Porto has agreed to let Martinez move if they receive any offers in excess of £30 million.

Since arriving at the Estadio do Dragao in 2012 from Mexican side Chiapas, Martinez has scored 60 goals in 91 appearances.

With all three interested parties all having the money to pay for Martinez including Valencia who have just been bought by Singapore billionaire businessman Peter Lim it will be a toss-up as to where the Colombian will go.

One ace Arsenal hold however is the fact that Martinez has previously declared his desire to join Arsenal – the club he supported as a boy.

In the end it may all come down to which club is prepared to pay the biggest salary which as we all know has been a problem for Arsenal in recent years.
