As relations between Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas continue to cool, Arsenal is getting ready to step in with an offer for long-term target Maxime Gonalons.

Napoli has twice tried to sign the defensive midfielder in the past and with the clubs relationship with Lyon deteriorating in recent weeks it is looking as though Lyon would rather sell him to anyone other than the Serie A giants.

Previously Napoli were said to be prepared to pay £14 million for the 25-year-old which De Laurentiis says the French clubs owner had agreed to only to then see the bid rejected when it was formally put on the table.

Incensed by these happenings the Italian clubs president has said he will now only pay £10.5 million which opens the door for Arsenal to step in and snap him up.

According to talkSPORT Arsene Wenger is a big fan of the young Frenchman, with the Gunners also being tipped to add a defensive midfielder to their ranks this summer a move for Gonalons looks like a distinct possibility.
