Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal will be pleased when he hears the news that Arsenal has dropped out of the race to sign Southampton defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

The general consensus was that the Red Devils would be in a bidding war for the French international, after Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had been looking to bring the 25-year-old to the Emirates for some time.

It would appear now however that Arsenal has abandoned their plans to bring Schneiderlin to north London given the fine performances put in by Francis Coquelin last season according to the Star.

Arsene Wenger is reluctant to spend such a large amount of money for a position he feels he no longer needs to fill and will instead seek out a cheaper alternative to provide cover leaving United free to now sign the quality defensive midfielder without any competition.
