Following 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Emirates, it was not all good news for Arsenal, who now sits just two points behind league leaders Leicester City. Following the game Gunners boss Arsene Wenger in his post-match interview told Sky Sports star forward Alexis Sanchez had suffered a setback to his injury during training and would now not be available for selection until the New Year.

Previously the 66-year-old manager had said that Sanchez had a “slight chance” of playing against third placed Manchester City, but in the end the Chilean did not even make it to the bench.

Speaking about the 27-year-olds injury Wenger said: “Sanchez will be back for around the 10th January. He had a little setback. He was planned to be on the bench tonight [Monday]. We didn’t take a gamble at all.”

Should the timeline Wenger suggests be correct, it will mean that Sanchez will miss the upcoming league games against Southampton, Bournemouth and Newcastle as well as the FA Cup clash with Sunderland on January 9.

With fellow forward Danny Welbeck’s recovery also suffering a setback following knee surgery back in September, it only add to the pressure Wenger feels as he prepares to go to the transfer market once the window opens for business in January.
