Turn back the clock to last May when Hull City took a 2-0 lead over Arsenal in the FA Cup final before fighting back to eventually win 3-2 and give the Gunners their first trophy in ten years.

At the time Wenger was under pressure from the fans with talk that he might resign if Arsenal failed to win but the 65-year-old Frenchman dismissed any idea that he might have decided to leave the club should they not have won saying: “To walk where? Walk away, no. Look, I have just won my 600th game out of 1000. That means I have won 60 per cent of the games.
“After 18 years, it would not be serious to walk away for losing one game. I do my job as well as I can and I respect my contracts always.”

Wenger went on to sign a three-year-contract just two weeks later, and yet here we are now with fans once more calling for him to step aside which had Wenger determined to try and retain the FA Cup.

On Sunday Arsenal face last year’s beaten finalists Hull City, and with the Gunners just coming off a 2-0 league loss to Southampton, Wenger is likely to make a few changes to the team which include a start for back-up goalkeeper David Ospina .

“Of course it is important. We want another cup run and we want to, if possible, keep the trophy said Wenger.
“We won it five times in my period and that means we give it the importance it has. It was nice to see our fans happy and shows you how big the club is when you win and when you don’t win as well but when you don’t win they cannot turn up happy.

“But we have a big job to do on Sunday and to come back in the Premier League and then we have the Champions League. What is for sure is we have room for improvement and we have to manage to do that quickly.
