Arsenal are confident of getting two of their top stars to sign new contracts, if the reports from England are anything to go by.
London Evening Standard reports that the Gunners are set to tie down Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to new contracts before next season. Both players’ contract expires in the summer of 2018. However, the club is leaving no stone unturned in seeing that their two most priced players are secured at the club on a long-term basis.
Ozil who earns in the region of £140k per week has been linked to a return to the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich said to be his likely destination.
While Sanchez has been repeatedly linked with a move to Real Madrid, Barca and Manchester City. The Spanish giants, who are looking to bolster their squad following the looming sale of James Rodriguez, are said to be targeting Sanchez and Eden Hazard as the possible replacement for the outgoing Colombian international.
Therefore Arsenal have their work cut out in trying to convince the stars that they have a future with the club. The Wenger’s side are the major underachievers this season after bottling their chances of winning the EPL title despite the lackluster performance of title rivals like Chelsea, Manchester United, and City, many thought this might hhave pissed off Arsenal star men but Standard reporter believes thats not the case and both players will remain with the club and sign new deals.
However, Wenger needs to ensure Arsenal does the right transfer business this summer to enable the club favourably compete on all fronts next season if they do not want to lose their stars as Ozil and Sanchez will inevitable ask to leave Arsenal if the Gunners continue to underachieve.
