The agent of long-time Tottenham target Leandro Damiao has revealed Napoli have sounded him out over a switch to Italy.

Napoli, who are bracing themselves for summer bids for Uruguay star Edinson Cavani, have eyed Damiao as the next South American star to lead their attack.

Spurs failed in a deadline day attempt to bring the Brazil international to White Hart Lane and his representative Vinicius Prates feels Napoli will be serious contenders for his signature in the future.

He told TuttoNapoli: “There are currently some contacts with Napoli, who are a great club, and to play in Italian football is a major goal for the player.

“But there are too many rumours about the boy, he wants to be focused on his work in Brazil.

“In June we’ll see what will happen, but there is no agreement with any club. Internacional have not changed their mind. They rejected an offer from Tottenham for £17m because they asked for more money.”
