It’s all over! Roberto Mancini has waved the white flag in the long-running battle to sign Arsenal’s unhappy Dutchman Robin van Persie.

White flag: Mancini admits that Van Persie won't be a Man City player now...

And with Juventus seemingly wobbling in their pursuit of the Gunnners’ hitman – with a ban cloud hanging over their coach Antonio Conte – it looks like it’s an open door for Manchester United.

Mancini has been hot in pursuit of Van Persie, but it looks like Sir Alex Ferguson has got in ahead of him. Fergie reportedly stayed in Britain while his team were in Norway in a bid to force through a £20million deal.

Mancini gave the clearest indication yet that City’s interest in the prolific marksman has come to an end.

When asked about the situation regarding the Arsenal star, the City boss said: “Van Persie? No, I don’t think he will come here.”
