Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is full of praise for deadline day signing Danny Welbeck after watching him score his first hat-trick in the Gunners 4-1 Champions League win over Turkish side Galatasaray last night at the Emirates in London.

The Manchester United academy graduate Welbeck terrorised the Turkish defence all night while producing three finishes of the highest quality leading to some of the Arsenal faithful to start liking him to former Gunners legend Thierry Henry.

Following the game Wenger could not hide is delight when speaking about the 23-year-old striker saying: “It’s good to see that slowly he is gaining confidence and finishes well.”

“It’s nice to see the potential is there and hopefully his hat-trick will help him to gain confidence.

“His link play is good as well. His team work and his work rate is at the level of the team and his attitude is positive. He’s a team player, he is not only a finisher, and he has learned that on the flank and here he wants to help the team.”

When asked what he had learned about Welbeck since he joined Arsenal Wenger added:

“That he’s a good finisher. Technically he’s very sound and that was a surprise.

“He’s a good passer of the ball and I did not know he was so quick. I knew he was quick, but he can be electric when he starts. He has great pace.”
