According to today’s Daily Star newspaper Arsenal is leading the race ahead of Manchester United and Liverpool to sign Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, with former Paris saint Germain teammate goalkeeper Jerome Alonzo hinting that Cavani was not happy playing for the French champions having to play second fiddle to Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Cavani started in Tuesday night’s 3-2 win over Barcelona ahead of the injured Ibrahimovic, but writing in the French newspaper Le Parisien the former PSG player said:

“We no longer recognize Cavani. He looks sad, his eyes no longer sparkle.

“With Cavani before, Paris can score a fourth goal late in the game. But his game is stereotyped.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger when recently speaking about the former Napoli striker said:

“I love him as a player,” he said on TF1. “I love the Matador’s attitude on the field. But I think he’s playing a little with the brake pulled up.

“I think at PSG is he not able to give his best, perhaps because of the presence of Ibrahimovic. He is able to influence at all levels in a team and there is little room for an attacker around him.”
