Manchester United striker Robin van Persie was seen yesterday evening leaving the Liberty Stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot following the Red Devils 2-1 loss to Swansea City.

The 31-year-old suffered the injury late in the match and could not be taken off as manager Louis van Gaal had already used all three substitutions.

United manager Louis van Gaal did not give any further details of the striker’s condition, but did say: “We dominated the game even with 10 men when Van Persie could not run anymore.”

Van Persie has scored ten goals for United so far this season and only returned to the side this weekend after having not played in the FA Cup last week against Preston.

United led the match following a goal from Ander Herrera, but the home side were back on level terms within minutes when Ki Sung-yueng put away a Jonjoe Shelvey cross.

Despite dominating proceedings in the second-half United could not find a goal, allowing a deflected shot from Shelvey beat David De Gea in the 73rd minute allowing Swansea to hang on for the win.

The loss now sees United drop to fourth in the table facing a tough battle to be playing in the Champions League next season.
