According to Manchester United legend Roy Keene Manchester United is “all over the place” in defence and need to bolster their ranks if they are to have any chance of succeeding in the Champions League.

Following to 2-1 away loss at PSV Eindhoven, Keene who put in 480 appearances for the Red Devils during his ten year spell at the club says that manager Louis van Gaal must sign another two defenders if he hopes to have success in Europe.

‘Defensively I still think United are all over the place,’ the former captain was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

‘The money United have invested, going forward they will be fine and in midfield they are not too bad but I think they are crying out for centre-halves, definitely one, possibly two.

‘As long as Blind and even Smalling – I’m not sure about him – or either Jones are playing centre-half, particularly in the Champions League against bigger teams [they will struggle].

‘It was a poor result, poor performance and giving away bad goals. They had chances to get something out the game. Disappointing night for United.’
