Arsenal

After watching yet another uninspiring Arsenal performance against Southampton on New Year’s Day it was obvious that the Gunners need to spend some money in January if they hope to finish the season in the top-four.

While I know Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho has been linked with a move to Arsenal his price tag of 30€ million seems a bit steep, but should the Gunners be prepared to spend that kind of money on Morgan Schneiderlin I would be over the moon as I think he is a perfect fit for the Gunners midfield, and would be eligible to compete in the Champions League.

The problem here though is that Southampton now fancies themselves for a top-four finish, and I cannot see them letting the Frenchman leave halfway through the season.

Wenger must not however assume anything and must test the Saints resolve with an offer.

Another player that the Gunners do have a chance of signing is Basel’s Fabian Schar who is similar to Laurent Koscielny, a player who likes to defend aggressively.

Schar’s contract runs out in the summer, and rather than see him leave for nothing the Swiss club knows that quite a few clubs have him on their radar and will be looking to sell him in January for a tidy profit.

What worries me though and quite possibly other Gooners is that Wenger will take the Band-Aid approach and look to pick up players on the cheap that can patch the holes until summer.

I hope I am wrong, but we will just have to wait and see.
