Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has come out and said that his team has not yet guaranteed a top-four finish despite an easy 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford yesterday that now sees the Red Devils in third place after moving above cross town rivals Manchester City.

Speaking to talkSPORT after the match when asked if a top-four finish was now a reality van Gaal said: “No [we haven’t], because we still have to play the first three in the league.

“It’s not done yet.”

Liverpool helped United’s cause losing 4-1 at Arsenal to give United an eight-point cushion above the fifth place team and one point behind second place Arsenal with just seven matches left to play.

Up next for United is a pivotal derby with City which could prove vital to both clubs seasons, before then traveling to Chelsea where they take on the league leaders.
