Former Arsenal Captain Frank McLintock speaking on talkSPORT this morning praised the Gunners recent victory over Manchester City calling it one of the greatest ever performances under manager Arsene Wenger in a long time, but claimed the pressure will be right back on the Frenchman should they slip up and not win a trophy this season.

“Arsenal supporters, including myself, don’t want to see him go because he is the best manager we have ever had, but it was nine years before we won a trophy again,” said McLintock.

“Arsene runs that club from top to bottom, completely by himself. I don’t think he has any interference and with the prices Arsenal supporters have to pay, one trophy in eight years, even though you are paying off the debt of the Emirates Stadium [is not good enough].

“For the last two years or so we should have been splashing out and getting some top players in because I feel we are a big club but I don’t think we act like a big club. And it is about time we did.

“If Arsenal slipped up in any shape of form, I don’t think just fourth position will be enough to stop him being criticised.”
