Over the past few days the British tabloid press has been predicting that Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri will be the next signing for Brendan Rodgers Liverpool as he increases the squad for next season’s European football.

The rumours said that the 22-year-old Bayern Munich player had fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola and that he felt he was not getting enough playing time in a team that also has Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller standing in his way.

Before taking part in training with the Swiss national team ahead of the World Cup he was asked by Swiss paper Blick where he would be next season.

“We asked ‘Where will you play next season?’, and Shaqiri laughed and ended all transfer speculation: ‘Still at Bayern Munich!’”

Liverpool is prepared to pay £15 million for Shaqiri so we are taking the young players comments lightly given the chance he could become a star player at Liverpool, and might not be given the chance at Bayern.

We feel that this could be a deal which is very much still on.
