Manchester United once again dropped points while fans were expecting to get on the celebration side as Sunderland stood firm to deny them the full three points.

Manchester United is still without a win in their first two English Premier League matches under Louis Van Gaal after a successful pre-season tour of the United States.

The last time Manchester United have this total points after two games was in 1992, a year they went on to win the league.

Louis Van Gaal’s men started slowly and struggled to find their rhythm with their host looking dangerous and comfortable on the ball early on. However, Antonio Valencia’s perfect cross found Juan Mata who tapped in from close range in the 16th minute.

It didn’t take too long before summer signing from Manchester City, Jack Rodwell rose tallest to head home from a corner.

Robin Van Persie returned to starting line-up for the first time this season but the Dutchman could not find his magic touch as he was later on substituted in the 63rd minute when he was replaced by Danny Welbeck who also made his first English Premier League appearance this season.

Manchester United was lacklustre in their performance and there was no sign of improvement from the squad that lost to Swansea last weekend.

With David De Gea in post, the trio of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Tyler Blackett started off in the defence with cleverly partnering Darren Fletcher in the midfield in the absence of new signing Ander Herrera.

Antonio Valencia returned to the team with Ashley Young playing from the left wing back role.

Manchester United injury worries worsen when defender Chris Smalling was forced off in the 44th minute and replaced by young Will Keane who made his English Premier League debut for the club.

It’s definitely going to be a thing of concern for Louis Van Gaal which was evident in the use of Adnan Januzaj as a central midfielder in the course of the game.

Manchester United although had more of the possession but couldn’t create any meaningful chance with the likes of Juan Mata, Robin Van Persie not finding enough space to do any damage to the opposition defence.

New signing Marcos Rojo was unavailable due to his wait for a work permit and Van Gaal will be hoping that can be sorted out soon enough with injury problems piling up and he now has just Phil Jones as the only senior defender for their Capital one match against MK Dons.

The Sunderland fans will feel their team should have taken the 3 points in a game they showed more attacking intent than former champions Manchester United.

Sunderland now has 2 points from a possible six while Manchester United is 13th on the table with 1 point from two matches.
