Liverpool striker Luis Suarez could not hide his emotions after letting a 3-0 lead slip away allowing Crystal Palace to come back and earn a 3-3 draw at Selhurst Park last night.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers following the match admitted that his players had thrown away any chance of winning the premiership title after throwing away a three goal lead.

Rodgers said: “Is it gone now? Yeah. We needed to win tonight.

“It’s very disappointing. We go top tonight – but we’re devastated.

“Our offensive game was outstanding but maybe we got carried away with thinking we could get more than three goals.

“The most important thing was to win – and we didn’t do that.

“We started well, then lost our shape a bit in the first half because of that – we thought we could play Roy of the Rovers football and make the goal difference up.

“But tonight was about winning the game. When we had the structure and discipline to our game, we scored goals and created chances. But we didn’t manage the game.

“It’s 99 goals, which is a phenomenal achievement by this team.

“But you have to defend. Under moments of pressure, we have to do better.

“Manchester City have two home games and we needed to win tonight to keep the pressure on going into the last game and we didn’t do that.

“You have to have that maturity to see it through, and we didn’t do that. It feels like a loss. The players are devastated.

“I think City will go on and win their two games now. They will be champions. But for us it’s been an outstanding achievement until now. We’ll keep looking to build.

“I have big sympathy for the supporters tonight.”
