Kevin Strootman could find himself on his way to Old Trafford in January, but it all depends on whether or not his current team AS Roma get a result against Manchester City at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday evening and progress to the knockout stage of the Champions League.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has made no secret that he intends to bring the 24 year-old Dutch international to Old Trafford, but was waiting to see how he recovered from a cruciate ligament injury before trying to sign him in January.

Strootman returned to action last month for Rudi Garcia’s team making three substitute appearances before starting the game against Sassuolo at the weekend.

Should Roma manage a win in the make or break game Wednesday night, van Gaal may very well have to wait until the summer before Roma would be willing to let Strootman leave.

Strootman has said nothing of the move preferring to take about his race to regain fitness, yet most people think that it is a certainty he will be playing in the Red Devils midfield, and the question of when will be known to all after Wednesday night’s results.
