It has emerged today that Tottenham are to rival Arsenal for the signing of West Ham central defender Winston Reid according to the Evening Standard.

Reid’s contract expires in June, and so far he has refused to listen to any new offers the Hammers have put forward.

The word is that Arsenal is prepared to pay £3million for the New Zealand international during this month’s transfer window, but with West Ham riding high up the table they are reluctant to let the 26-year-old leave now, even though they know he will walk away for nothing in the summer.

The Standard says Reid is looking to remain in London but wants a £1 million signing-on-fee plus at least a £60,000 per-week salary.

“I don’t know for sure whether Winston will stay or go,” said West Ham manager Sam Allardyce earlier this week. “This club has a big few years ahead of it and is on the up.

If we can finish the season in a high position in the Premier League, perhaps Winston may feel he wants to stay here.”
