Manchester United can apparently heave a huge sigh of relief after reports coming out of Spain suggest that Spanish giants Real Madrid have cooled their interest in Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea and have now stitched their attention to Liverpool target Asmir Begovic.

Real Madrid were expected to make a move for the 24-year-old Manchester United goalkeeper this summer in the hope of luring the Spanish international home, with him yet to sign a new contract at Old Trafford.

The talk in Madrid today however is that they have now given up any hope of signing De Gea this summer and have switched their attention to Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Bosnian international Begovic meanwhile has begun talks of his own at Stoke while also being linked with both Liverpool and Arsenal.

Speaking about the situation yesterday Potters boss Mark Hughes said: “We want to be a team that’s consistently in the top ten.

To be able to do that, you need key players in key areas of the field and obviously goalkeeper is a key position in any good team and Asmir has been exceptional for us for a long time now.’

“We’re talking and those talks are going to be concluded in the summer.

“Hopefully they are going to be concluded in our favour.”
