MANCHESTER UNITED boss Sir Alex Ferguson has warned that the newly-crowned champions have the cash to make a huge signing.

Ferguson insists everything is in place for a big-money swoop, especially if any of his major targets, which include Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski, become realistic buys. He said: “I think the owners, the Glazers have done great. Whenever I’ve asked, they’ve delivered. If I was to ask to go for a certain player now, I think they’d do it.”

Last week Old Trafford vice-chairman Ed Woodward said there would be “no major retooling” of the squad in the summer but Fergie has other plans.

The Scot is battling Bayern Munich for Lewandowski and is monitoring the Ronaldo situation at Real Madrid.

Although United won’t match the £80million the Spaniards paid in 2009 they won’t shy away from £50m.

Ferguson added: “Last season we had Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney and we went for van Persie.

“We won the league this season because we had a good strong squad with numbers and I think we should add to it.”
