According to this morning’s Daily Star Manchester United is preparing to sell striker Robin van Persie with United chief executive Ed Woodward ready to let him leave to the highest bidder.

The now 31-year-old Dutchman joined United in 2012 from Arsenal for £24 million and was Sir Alex Fergusons last major signing before retiring.

His first year at the club proved to be a revelation in which his 30 goals in all competitions played a big part in United winning the Premier League title.

Yet ever since Ferguson left van Persie has failed to achieve the success he enjoyed under Sir Alex scoring 18 goals last season and so far just ten goals this season under Louis van Gaal that has now seem him become a background player at the club.

The Holland international enters the final year of his contract this season, and so far there has been no movement by the club to offer him a new deal.

RVP is on a salary of £200,000 per-week and the bosses at Old Trafford are reluctant to let him just run out his contract and leave for nothing next summer so are willing to let him leave now in what will be a cut price deal.

The talk is that van Gaal will be given £150 million to spend on players this summer and getting RVP’s huge salary off the books will help van Gaal to bring in another high-calibre player such as Paris-Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani who is rumoured to be one of LVG’s main transfer targets.
