Threat

ROBIN VAN PERSIE was quiet for long periods but came to life with the chance to put United in front, scoring with a textbook finish.

Tried to be too fancy with a couple of back-heels.

Luis Suarez volleyed a chance over in the first half but looked more dangerous after the break.

However, it will not go down as one of his best games.

Industry

RVP was outshone by strike partner Danny Welbeck in terms of work-rate — but the former Arsenal man used his energy when it mattered to score one goal and create another.

Suarez struggled in the first half but looked much happier when he had support from Sturridge.

Worked as hard as anyone to bring Liverpool back into it.

Fans’ reaction

BOTH players are the darlings of their own fans but Suarez will always be public enemy No1 in the eyes of all opposition fans.

He will always get a torrid time at Old Trafford after his race row with Evra and so it proved again as his every touch was jeered.

Any boos directed towards Van Persie were soon drowned out when he opened the scoring.

Behaviour

SUAREZ knew he had to be a good boy after stepping out of line against United in the past and started by shaking Evra’s hand — after refusing last year.

There was one incident when he sarcastically applauded a linesman who gave a foul against him.

RVP, who has been shown four league yellow cards this season, did not misbehave.

Handiwork

Suarez  is known for using his hands — either to save goals or score them — so when he caught a high ball that had gone out of play, it drew a big cheer from the home fans.

Van Persie just let his feet do the talking with his lightning finish past Reina and his perfectly flighted free-kick for Evra to score the second.

Verdict

AS if United fans needed further convincing about their 21-goal top scorer, he scored one and created the other against their bitter rivals.

He did not do that much more but, frankly, who cares?

Suarez looked out of sorts before the break. He was more involved in the second half but failed to make the impact his team needed.
