Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has told teammate Angel Di Maria to hire a Ghurkha to protect his Cheshire mansion.

Argentinian international Di Maria recently suffered an attempted home invasion from an armed gang while he and his family were having dinner.

Fortunately the robbers fled after the alarm scared them off, but Di Maria’s wife Jorgelina was so shaken up by what happened she refuse to return home and has been staying in a downtown Manchester hotel since the incident.

Rooney faced a similar problem after a spate of robberies in the upscale neighbourhood where he lives fearing to leave his house empty while away on England duty for the World Cup.

To elevate his fears the England skipper hired a former British Army Ghurkha to protect his home, and has now urged Di Maria to do the same.

The Ghurkha’s are from Nepal mostly impoverished hill farmer who were taken into the British Army after a war between them and the British East India Company in 1815.

The Ghurkha’s were such fierce fighters that it was deemed better to have them on your side rather than fight against you.

The Ghurkha’s motto is “Better to die than be a coward” which should be enough to put off anyone thinking to break into Di Maria’s house for a second time.
