Italian Serie A side Bologna is ready to step up their interest in Liverpool striker Fabio Borini after having failed to sign him during the January transfer window.

The Italian striker had been linked with a move back to Italy after he turned down the chance of a permanent move to Sunderland where he had spent last season on loan with Gus Poyets club.

The 23-year-old has yet to get the playing time he envisaged at Liverpool making just 23 appearances since 2012.

Bologna however is willing to reignite the Italians career after their technical director Pantaleo Corvino confirmed that they are still interested in signing him.

He said: “Borini was the first player I called, but we decided to talk about it again in the future.”

With Daniel Sturridge now fit and Mario Balotelli looking better by the match the chances of Borini establishing himself in Brendan Rodgers team are slim.

The striker however says de does not regret his decision to stay at Liverpool telling the Echo: “I’ve never regretted staying here,”

“Yes, I could have left but I wanted to stay at Liverpool and I’m glad I did.

“To be honest, going back to last summer, I didn’t expect to play as much as I have done so far. With Daniel Sturridge’s injuries, I’ve played more than I expected. I think I’ve done okay.

“I won’t be leaving this month. I started the last game and I don’t see any reason why I would need to change clubs. I see it as all positive for me.”
