Everton and England defender John Stones was the subject of summer bids from both Chelsea and Manchester United, and despite a staggering last minute bid of £38 million has remained at Goodison Park.

Former Everton scout Tony Henry discovered the now 21-year-old centre-back while he was playing for Barnsley, and convinced Everton manager David Moyes to sign him, and is predicting even bigger things for the England defender saying he could end up playing for Real Madrid.

“John will still make mistakes but in two years, I think he could be anywhere. He could be at Real Madrid,” Henry told the Liverpool Echo.

“I’m glad he stayed at Everton because if he had gone to Chelsea or Manchester United he would have played, but I feel it may have been too much for him at the moment.

“But playing at Everton, alongside Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman, will bring him on even more.

“But that he is now a regular in the England squad speaks volumes of the kid. I’m delighted for him.”
