Manchester City target Raheem Sterling has told Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers that he is not in the right frame of mind to join Liverpool on their pre-season tour of Australian and Asia.

More than likely the refusal to go is because the 20-year-old England international knows what kind of abuse he will have to put up with after refusing to sign a new contract at Anfield.

Meanwhile Manchester City has already had two bids rejected for the want-away forward and is expected to make a third bid closer to the £50 million Liverpool is asking at any moment.

Liverpool are due to fly out on Sunday for a trip that begins with a game against the Thai All-Stars in Bangkok next Tuesday, before moving on to Australia for games in Brisbane and Adelaide before a final stop in Malaysia on the way home.
