Manchester United and Arsenal target Benedikt Howedes has said he will not play for any other German club than his current side Schalke, but a move abroad is something that he would be interested in.

Both Louis van Gaal and Arsene Wenger have the £14 million rated German defender on their summer shopping lists with Arsenal sending scout to watch the 26-year-old for some time now.

Van Gaal has already said that his priority in the off-season will be sorting out United’s defence and he knows that the World Cup winner is a more than capable centre-back who would be right at home playing for Manchester United.

When talking about his plans Howedes said: “If I am to leave Schalke one day, I do not want to move clubs within the Bundesliga.

“Schalke is too close to my heart to do so. But a move abroad at a certain time would be worth an experience.

“England would be my goal.”
