Oxlade-Chamberlain to miss England opener against Italy

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be missing from the England team for their opening World Cup match against Italy in the Amazonian city of Manaus on Saturday June 14th.

The Arsenal star damaged ligaments in his knee after showing some brilliant play during the 2-2 draw with Ecuador in a World Cup warn up match in Miami Wednesday, before having to limp off the pitch following a tangle with Ecuador’s Carlos Gruezo.

Following a scan of the 20-year-olds knee he will be side-lined for at least the next ten days with England manager Roy Hodgeson hoping that he will recover in time to feature in England’s second Group D match against Uruguay at the Arena de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo on Thursday the 19th of June.
