arsenal,

While out in Singapore yesterday on their pre-season tour, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger let it be known that the club was still interested in signing one or two more signings during the current transfer window.

One of these signings is expected to be a world class striker with names such as Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema, Edinson Cavani and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette all being talked about as possible targets.

Previously Porto’s Jackson Martinez looked to be a big possibility before the Colombian international committed his future to Atletico Madrid.

Of the names mentioned above only one stands out for us as the right man for Arsenal and that is Karim Benzema.

Unfortunately for Arsenal however is the rumour that Arsene Wenger reached out to the 27-year-old and was told by Benzema that he was happy at Real Madrid. This however could change just a few weeks into the season after the Frenchman finds himself sitting on Rafa Benitez’s bench while the Spanish trainer plays Cristiano Ronaldo as a striker in order to get more out of Gareth Bale.

Of the other names mentioned, Cavani looks poised to join Manchester United with Angel Di Maria going the opposite way to PSG, and as for Higuain, Napoli is just too unrealistic in their £63 million asking price for the Argentinian.

This now leaves Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, who is thought to be available for £28 million, a price Wenger will like compared to all the others as the striker most likely to join Arsenal.

Lacazette averaged nearly a goal per-game for Lyon last season, and would be a good option for Arsenal as he is young and still hungry for more, but the one problem the Gunners may face is a Liverpool side that also needs a top goal-scorer, and armed with £49 million from the sale of Raheem Sterling could cause Arsenal problems.

The best thing that can happen from a Gunners perspective is for Liverpool to sign Christian Benteke from Aston Villa allowing Wenger to pick up the French international for what we think is a bargain.
