French Ligue 1 side flush with cash since being bought by a Russian billionaire are eager to shore up their defense, and think that Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is just the man to do the job.

The Belgium international defender missed the game on Sunday against Chelsea with a calf injury that has been niggling him for several weeks, but should return for City’s next match against Norwich at home on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Kompany still has four years remaining on his current contract at the Etihad, but given Monaco’s financial resources and their ability to pay players tax free should manager Claudio Ranieri decide that Kompany is the man for the job City will have to convince him that his future lies with them.
