Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil could be ready to play sooner than the early New Year prognosis given after he injured his knee on October 5th during the 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The German international was photographed heading to training on Friday with goalkeepers Wojciech Szczesny and Damian Martinez, and with the news that Aaron Ramsey will now be out for four weeks with an injured hamstring the thought of Özil returning before the hectic Christmas period would be a big boost for the Gunners.

Meanwhile Özil was on hand to watch his team beat the in-form Newcastle United on Saturday following on from the 4-1 win at Galatasaray midweek as the Gunners appear to be gaining momentum following the disappointment at Stoke.
