Louis Nicollin says Montpellier will not appoint Diego Maradona as their new head coach.

The reigning French champions are in the market for a new coach due to the departure of Rene Girard at the end of the season, and one of Maradona’s agents stated last week that there was a 75 per cent chance the Argentine would take over.

However, Nicollin has now revealed that the 1986 World Cup hero is no longer in the race for the position as MHSC coach.

“No, Maradona will not come to Montpellier. There are too many agents involved in this affair for my liking,” Nicollin told L’Equipe.

“It’s all a bit of a mess and I have had enough of it. Not of Maradona, but of all the agents involved. The entire story is giving me a headache.”

Maradona has been out of work ever since leaving Al Wasl in the summer of 2012.
