Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini insists that striker Carlos Tevez’s future remains at the club following his punishment of 250 hours’ community service for driving offences.
The Italian has insisted that the punishment will have no effect on his long-term future at the Etihad Stadium, adding that it is a rare personal incident which does not reflect negatively on the club.
“No,” Mancini told reporters when asked if it will affect Tevez’s future. “I didn’t speak with him about that but I don’t think that will be a problem.
“Carlos made a mistake and he has paid for this. Usually, he has good behaviour.”
The Manchester City boss is also certain that the striker’s actions will not create a poor image for the club, despite Samir Nasri also being banned from driving this week for six months after failing to pay his speeding fines.
“No, this is their private life,” Mancini replied when asked about a damaged reputation for the club. “We can do nothing about this. This can happen sometimes.”
However, the club were lifted this week after it was confirmed Yaya Toure had signed a new four-year contract at the club.
The influential midfielder was set for showdown talks with club officials over a new contract, as exclusively revealed by Goal.com, and it was confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Toure signed a new deal.
“We’re very happy he’s prepared to play for us and sign another contract,” Mancini added. “For me, it’s very important for the club, for the players, for him.
“I am happy because Yaya is one of the best players in the world and we’re happy he plays for us.”
