The Mail on Sunday are running a story today that says Manchester United is willing to pay Dutch striker Robin van Persie £5 million if he will leave the club this summer.

The 31-year-old moved to Old Trafford from Arsenal for £24 million in 2012 and is currently under contract until 2016, but the talk is of the club wanting to sell him at the end of the season as they look to bring in Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.

RVP has had a tough season at United after being plagued with an ankle injury, and the talk is off the Northwest giants wanting to get what they can for him now and also save paying his £200,000 per-week salary.

The Mail says that United is willing to pay half the £10 million loyalty bonus that was agreed to when he signed from Arsenal and use the savings in wages for another striker.

The newspaper also suggests that the Italian Serie A trio of Juventus, Inter Milan and Lazio could all be willing to take the Dutchman should he leave the Theatre of Dreams.
