In what can only be good news for Manchester United fans, Holland World Cup star Nigel de Jong has rejected the idea of holding talks with Ajax over a possible move to Amsterdam according to talkSport quoting reports coming out of Italy.

The 30-year-old midfielder’s contract with AC Milan expires in the summer meaning he is free to join United on a free transfer.

The news that he intends to depart has other clubs around Europe interested in the former Manchester City player, but apparently Manchester United are leading the queue according to Calcio Mercato after he turned down the chance to join Ajax.

De Jong is apparently reluctant to return to the club where he got his start preferring instead to link up with his former Holland boss Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
