Arsenal defensive midfield target Morgan Schneiderlin has said that he is desperate to play more games for Southampton.

This could spell bad news for the Gunners who were expected to try and sign the French international next summer.

The 26-year-old has had a slow start to the season with the Saints due to being side-lined with a groin injury, but was back on the pitch yesterday for the second half of a tough match against Liverpool in which Southampton lost 0-2 to the inform Merseysiders.

“I’m fully fit,” he said after the match. “It was a good thing for me today because I felt sharp, I felt good, so hopefully I can kick on.

“I can’t wait because I am hungry, because I missed a lot of football.”
