In yet another blow to Manchester United’s effort to build a new team Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has told Louis van Gaal’s men that for now at least he is staying in Germany.

The Red Devils new manager van Gaal had ear marked the 25-year-old Hummels as a partner for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen in what he considered his ideal centre-back pairing

When asked about a move to United the German star told the Daily Star: “I never think about a move to Manchester United or talk about it because it is something that isn’t important for me right now.

“Maybe it will be some day, but I don’t expect it to be like that this summer.”

Manchester United must now turn their attention somewhere else as they seek defensive cover to replace outgoing Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
