A new rumour is doing the rounds in Melbourne, Australia this Thursday, and that is that Manchester United is set to buy A-League team Melbourne Victory.

Aussie radio station 3aw broke the news that the Red Devils were looking to spend down under, and that by buying the Victory they will be setting up an equal team rivalry as they have back home after Manchester City purchased Melbourne’s other football club Melbourne City for £12 million back in 2014.

The Radio station report says: Having witnessed the success of Manchester City’s purchase of Melbourne City, they (United) are seriously considering following in the footsteps of their noisy neighbours, as they’re called, and buying the Victory.

While the Victory are open to a proposal, there is a view a sale may be more suited to Liverpool given an already existing relationship.

There are rumblings out of Manchester, over the last couple of days, that they’ve seen what City has done with Melbourne City and would like to put their hat in the ring for something similar.

All I’m saying is that in five years’ time the Melbourne derby could be City v United.
