Manchester United have received a boost in their chances of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo after former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show that the Portuguese striker has become disillusioned at the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to the former president Ronaldo’s relationship with current president Florentino Pérez is at an all-time low following the departures of Xabi Alonso and Angel Di Maria this past summer.

“My impression is he is fed up with the policy of the current president,” claimed Calderon.

“When he came [to Real Madrid] with [Arjen] Robben he thought he would be a good colleague for him in the team [but then he was sold].

“Two years ago it was [Gonzalo] Higuain sold and he didn’t like that. Last year he thought it was a mistake to let [Mesut] Özil leave and the last straw was selling Xabi Alonso and Angel di Maria this summer.”

United are said to be plotting a mega-money deal to bring CR7 back to Old Trafford and Calderon said he would not be surprised if the 29-year-old returned to the premiership adding:

“When I signed him in 2008, I remember he said he was grateful to Manchester United.

“He had a marvellous time there, he likes everything. It is a really great club.”
