Manchester United is believed to be currently in talks with Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon over star midfielder William Carvalho, who he previously been linked with a move to Chelsea.

Now however the Daily Express is claiming that Sporting have told United they can have him just so long as they meet his £37 million buyout clause.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the finest holding midfielders in Portugal, which is the reason Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is still interested even though the Blues have already signed Cesc Fabregas.

United however have a long history with Sporting having already signed Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo from them in the past , but are under no doubt they will have to pay a top price after Sporting director Augusto Ignacio said: “It’s not like the old days when players left Sporting at any price.

“We are not concerned with William Carvalho because we have alternatives, who will want to play as well.

“The termination clause ensures a great deal to Sporting. I am very pleased with the negotiations.

“It is not easy to negotiate for players, you need to be very shrewd but Sporting have a president who knows how to negotiate with anyone and what is best for the club.”
