A lack of fire power at Manchester United is forcing manager Louis van Gaal to make a top striker his number one January transfer priority after seeing his side find the back of the net just ten times in their last 12 games.

Italian football newspaper Itasportpress claim that LVG has set his sights on Everton front-man Romelu Lukaku after having watched the Belgium international score 12 goals in the Premiership so far this season just one goal behind league leader Jamie Vardy of Leicester City.

After having sold Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez during the summer and shipping out James Wilson on loan to Brighton, the Dutchman has just Antony Martial, and the out of form Wayne Rooney to rely on for goals.

Currently the Red Devils are still in with a very good chance of winning the league, but van Gaal knows he must find a way to get more goals and sees the Everton striker as a good option.

United are also interested in Everton defender John Stones, yet given the way the Toffee’s stuck to their guns over the summer, despite three bids from Chelsea, we feel Manchester United will be unlucky as well, with the Merseyside club not interested in doing any business halfway through the season.
