Following the 2-0 win against Yeovil in the FA Cup, manager Louis van Gaal has defensive worries ahead of their match at Old Trafford against Southampton on Sunday.

Brazilian defender Rafael had to be sent to a local Somerset hospital after suffering what appears to be a cheek fracture.

Adding to this Luke Shaw departed the match at Huish Park with an injury to his ankle.

“Rafael Da Silva has an injury and a fracture of his bone so it was fantastic he had the guts to play through,” reported Van Gaal.

“Rafael played through because over the last few weeks he has not played so much. But he has a fantastic attitude. He is unbelievable.

“I had to change him and also Luke Shaw because he had an ankle problem. He played on also. Rafael has already gone away in a car to the hospital. I don’t know how he did it. I cannot say I will have to watch the video. Also the same with Shaw. But it was a very physical game.”

The Red Devils also have injuries to Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young, leaving LVG with some tough decisions to make.
