Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is not making too many new friends at Old Trafford with his style of boring possession football and when you have the ball for the majority of the match and still lose as was the case against Bournemouth yesterday questions are bound to be asked.

News this morning that the Red Devils have been in contact with Bayern Munich trainer Pep Guardiola will resonate well around the Theatre of Dreams with many loyal United fans now fed up with the Dutchman and his tactics according to the Manchester Evening news.

The former Barcelona player and trainer would radically change the way United plays at present and would if you asked the fans who they would like to see in charge of the club be their No.1 choice.

If in fact the reports are true and that United has indeed spoken with the 44-year-old Catalan there will still be huge hurdles to overcome with other reports saying he is being groomed to replace Chilean manager Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad, while a far less likely suggestion has him taking over at the Emirates allowing Arsene Wenger to retire.

One thing is for sure though, and that is that the fans are starting to turn against van Gaal, who if he does not start racking up some results could find himself hanging up his boots a year sooner than he had planned.
