Manchester United is very close to completing the signing of Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria according to Goal.com, while other sources say the only stumbling block remains the fact that the Argentinian wants to play Champions League football, which is something that Manchester United cannot offer at least for this season.

Real Madrid are looking to get £40 million for the 26-year-old with United initially only prepared to offer just over £30 million and with talks due to resume next week both side feel that with a little compromise a deal can be reached.

When asked about his future before the World Cup kicked off Di Maria said he had told his agent not to ask him anything as he wanted to focus on events in Brazil that now see Argentina playing Germany in tomorrow’s final.

“I’ve asked my agent not to tell me anything about the talks he’s having,” he told reporters. “I don’t know what’s going to happen with my career.

“I don’t want to know anything about my future right now. I’m focusing on my national team and not on what’s going on elsewhere.”

Should Di Maria agree to join United he will be the clubs third signing of the summer and free up new manager Louis van Gaal to go after Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.
