Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal had a go at his players last night following what he called a below par performance against struggling Burnley, despite his team winning 3-1 at Old Trafford.

The United win came courtesy of two goals from Chris Smalling and a Robin van Persie penalty that cancelled out Liverpool target Danny Ings goal for the Clarets.

Yet despite taking all three points that now sees United third in the Premiership the Dutchman was not at all happy with the way his team performed.

Van Gaal said: “I didn’t like this performance today. Of course, we have won and the result is fantastic.

“But after this match you cannot say that we are going up and I want to progress every match.”

The United manager saw Daley Blind and Phil Jones leave the match through injury and gave an immediate update on the condition of the two players.

“Daley Blind has a headache and maybe tomorrow it is better,” He continued. “I don’t think Blind will be out for next Monday’s game.

“But for Phil Jones, I fear. I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see tomorrow.”
