As the whistles started once more to resonate around Old Trafford as the Manchester United faithful get tired of watching what many people are calling dull football since the appointment of Dutchman Louis van Gaal, talkSPORT’s Dutch football correspondent Marcel van der Kraan is certain that given time van Gaal will prove all the people that are questioning his methods wrong.

It is true that since taking over from sacked manager David Moyes the former Ajax, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich manager has chopped and changed the United team so much that the players struggle to form an understanding with each other, and despite being third in the table the fans at Old Trafford are getting fed up of watching the style of play that van Gaal is imposing on the team.

Just last week West Ham manager Sam Allardyce accused van Gaal of using long ball tactics, a style of play you often see in the lower leagues where teams just kick the ball into the opponents box hoping that one of their players will scramble a goal.

Van der Kraan however believes the 63-year-old will be up for the challenge and has backed Van Gaal to turn things around.

“I have absolute belief in Louis van Gaal and I always have had,” he told Hawksbee and Jacobs.

“There have been times when we [Dutch journalists] have had our doubts in the past. He has proved us wrong so many times now though, that it would be a surprise if he doesn’t turn it around.

“I hope for Man United and for Van Gaal that he proves everybody wrong again.”
