Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero has been ruled out of the trip to face Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday after not having played a match since picking up a hamstring injury in a Champions League match with Arsenal two weeks ago.

The 25-year-old Argentinian returned to training on Thursday but it still looks as though he is going to miss the trip down to London.

Agüero did not push himself fully in training as City medical staff look to ease him back to full fitness.

According to the Daily Star: “His absence looks set to continue and he is unlikely to make the trip to the Emirates Stadium for the showdown with the Gunners”

City manager Manuel Pellegrini will not want to rush the recovery of his leading goal scorer who despite being out with a series of injuries has still managed to score a remarkable 26 goals.

With Manchester City involved in a race for the title with Chelsea and Liverpool Pellegrini know that anything but a win will be a setback for his team, but fortunately he still has quality strikers available in the form of Edin Dzeko, Alvaro Negredo and the now fully fit Montenegrin international Stevan Jovetic to choose from.

Agüero would not want to take any chances of returning too soon knowing that the World Cup is just around the corner, but is likely to return for the game against Southampton on April 5th.
